Blue Acres programThrough the Blue Acres program, homeowners have the option to voluntarily sell their flood-prone homes to NJDEP, providing a path for recovery and minimizing hazards.

What is Blue Acres?
Blue Acres is a voluntary, state-led flood buyout program that works with willing sellers to purchase their home that has been damaged by storm events or is prone to future flooding. To assist homeowners with flood recovery and prevention, Blue Acres offers Fair Market Value and evaluates participants for supplemental assistance or incentives, which are monies available in addition to the value of the home, to help ensure that offer amounts allow homeowners to pay off existing debt on the home (mortgage, liens, etc.) and have some proceeds from the sale to secure comparable replacement housing that is safe and outside of flood-prone areas.

Apply for a Flood Buyout ASAP
Homeowners who wish to participate in the voluntary flood buyout program must express interest in a buyout by applying directly to the program. Blue Acres buyouts are strictly voluntary, and homeowners can change their mind or withdraw from participation at any time.
Please reach out to Blue Acres or visit the Blue Acres Local governments webpage for additional information and resources.

BERGEN COUNTY, NEW JERSEY 2026 MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLANThe Bergen County Office of Emergency Management is updating its 2021 Bergen County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). Hazard mitigation planning identifies risks and vulnerabilities associated with natural disasters and develops long-term strategies for protecting people and property from future hazard events. A HMP is required by state and federal agencies to be updated every five (5) years in order for communities in Bergen County to be eligible for certain types of state and federal disaster relief funds after a disaster occurs. The County of Bergen, alongside consultant Michael Baker International, Inc., will host a series of public workshops during this plan update. The purpose of the workshops is to provide an update on the project and to gather input from residents. Public input will help the project team better understand risks, vulnerabilities, and impacts of natural hazards to the community and identify potential mitigation actions to reduce that risk. Public Workshop #1 Date and Time: Wednesday, January 24, 2024, 6:00 – 7:00 PM Location: One Bergen County Plaza, Learning Center Hackensack, NJ 07601 To review the 2021 Bergen County HMP or learn more about hazard mitigation planning, please visit:January 16, 2024

Board of Chosen FreeholdersPUBLIC HEARING NOTICEThe County of Bergen is proposing to change the purpose or use of Saddle Ridge Riding Center located at 900 Shadow Ridge Road in Franklin Lakes, NJ. The change in use involves the construction of a second indoor equestrian riding arena approximately 216’ x 98’. The additional arena will allow the facility to be able to dedicate one indoor arena to lessons and the second will provide a space for riders and horses to exercise on inclement days. The additional indoor riding arena will also allow the facility to resume their therapeutic riding program, which had to be discontinued in the winter due to lack of riding space.Saddle Ridge Riding Center is an existing Bergen County owned horseback riding facility, encompassing over 28 acres, located in Franklin Lakes, NJ Lot 1 Block 1602.All information regarding the proposed change in purpose or use is available for public inspection at Bergen County Department of Parks, One Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack, NJ 07601.and online at www.co.bergen.nj.us and www.nj.gov/dep/greenacresWritten comments should be submitted to the Bergen County Department of Parks with a copy sent to the NJDEP Green Acres Program at the following Addresses by September 28, 2018:Adam Strobel
