Saddle River County Park

Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Paramus, Ridgewood, Rochelle Park, and Saddle Brook

Saddle River County Park is a 577-acre linear park that meanders with the Saddle River and its tributary brooks. It consists of five park areas that are linked by a multi-use path, including circular paths around some ponds.

Multi-use pathway/Bicycle-Pedestrian Path: This bike and pedestrian path travels from Ridgewood to Rochelle Park and is approximately 6 miles in length. This continuous path runs through Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Fair Lawn, Paramus, Saddle Brook and Rochelle Park and under Route 4. This path also follows the Saddle River and Ho-Ho-Kus Brook and passes by the Historic Easton Tower at Route 4. The path features a scenic waterfall at Dunkerhook Park, and there are three ponds, tree shaded picnic areas, pavilions, playgrounds, tennis courts and athletic fields accessible along the path.

The Rochelle Park area is home to a picnicking areas and a pavilion with electric*, 2 tennis courts, a basketball court, a playground and a softball field*. The multi-use path in this area begins at Railroad Avenue and winds along the river for approximately 1 mile then links to the footbridge. Visitors can loop back on the Saddle Brook side of the river or keep exploring by heading north under the Garden State Parkway. (* permit required). 

Amenities

Named after a former Bergen County Parks Commissioner, the Otto Pehle area continues the multi-use path including a ¾ mile loop around the pond where visitors can fish (NJ State Fishing License Required). Traditional park amenities include a playground, 2 softball and 1 baseball field* and a picnic area and a pavilion with electric*. Special features include the Yitzhak Rabin Tree Grove and model boating*. (* permit required). 

Amenities

Spanning Paramus and Fair Lawn, the Dunkerhook Area at its southern most point is home to the Easton Tower, a county historic site . The multi-use path continues past the tower under route 4 entering an area with an all-purpose athletic field* and open area for use with electric gliders*. Continuing north there are additional amenities including a picnic area and a pavilion with electric*, 3 tennis courts, and a playground (*permit required). There is fishing in this area of the Saddle River (NJ State Fishing License Required) and a lovely waterfall for nature lovers to enjoy. The multi-use path forks just beyond the falls heading east into the Wild Duck Pond area in Ridgewood or west into the Glen Rock Area.

Amenities

The Glen Rock area provides park-goers with a surprising number of amenities all accessible via the multi-use path, including 2 tennis courts, a playground, picnic areas and 2 pavilions both with electric*. Model boating* and fishing can be enjoyed at the pond (NJ State Fishing License Required) (*permit required). In winter the park remains open for ice-skating when conditions allow.

The Wild Duck Pond area can be reached from the south via the multi-use path along an invigorating 2 mile stretch that hugs the river or by car from the entrance on East Ridgewood Avenue. The park amenities include picnic areas, a pavilion with electric*, a playground and a dog park, activities include fishing (NJ State Fishing License Required), model boating* and ice skating when weather conditions allow.
