Clean Communities Program – Litter Removal
Available Options
There are three different options available to communities and organizations for proper and effective litter pick up and removal:
Cleaning up Your Site
Through a coordinated effort between the Bergen County Department of Health Services and the Bergen County Probation Department, there are opportunities available to clean up your site.
If you do not have the available volunteers to keep an area clean, you can contact the Bergen County Department of Health Services and we can provide the Community Service personnel for you.
Getting Other Areas Clean
If you see an area, on public property, that is in need of tidying up, either along the highway, in a park or along a stream, let us know. The program runs on Saturday mornings through the summer.
One way to become involved in your community is through our Clean Communities Mini Grant Program. Your non-profit organization can select a site they wish to cleanup and in return receive a grant with a minimum value of $300.00. All sites must be submitted to the program coordinator and approved. We provide any equipment necessary and means for disposal if needed.

Volunteers are the backbone to a clean community program.
Grants
There are a limited number of mini grants available to non-profit volunteer groups every year. The mini grant includes $300.00 for the non-profit group as well as a loan of some equipment and supplies for the clean up.
Basis of Program
It is sometimes necessary to perform these clean up programs on a volunteer basis only. We can still provide you with the equipment to do the clean up, and possibly a site as well. Any assistance is appreciated in the ongoing effort to keep a community clean.
Maintaining Sites
If you are a volunteer group or individual who has a site they want to keep clean, contact us for equipment to help you.
If you are looking for a place for yourself or group that you would like to help keep clean, we can help with that too.
